Erik Truffaz / Rodolphe Burger. What a live concert!

In Parc La Grange, Geneva, Erik Truffaz and Rodolphe Burger with their musicians gave us a magic evening. Pure energy, it got it all, rythm, silence, emotions... I'll remember this moment. The rain miraculously stopped during the concert last night. I felt so peaceful and was happy to talk again to the contemporary jazz trumpeter. He always own his old white Volvo. He hasn't change is car for years. That makes me laugh. The guy is so human. I appreciate him a lot. That was more than fun, i stay enthusiast after yesterday's live concert and i'm happy to share […]

No answer

What should i think about it? The story is that i contacted an important person to me and received no answer. I do feel sadness, desperateness, hopelessness, anxiety, miserable. Should i get rid of my feelings and adapt with a so called positive attitude saying to myself: "no way, it's not that important ; i should better think to someone else ; i have much to do".

This doesn't help me. I have to live with my emotions and i cannot just escape. May be, this is the very good situation in which my life has to integrate and […]

The Australian Open tennis emotions

Nadal beats Roger Federer and his tears told the story of a broken tennis warrior. His will was broken and his psyche cracked. Roger has not improved on the 14 major slams titles of Pete Sampras for now.

"Maybe I’ll try later. God, it’s killing me,” Roger said while crying.

Whether it was confusion, frustration, or the painful acceptance of a broken man, Roger Federer stayed so human and respectful. He returned to congratulate Rafael within minutes, saying: “You deserved it. You played a fantastic final.”

So did Rafael Nadal saying “Roger, sorry for today. I really know how you […]

Decisions and Emotions

Is decision making emotional or logical?

Decision making is a cognitive process in which we choose between alternatives. We often have our preferred approaches varying between thinking and feeling.

When we make logic decisions, we seek to exclude emotions using rational methods. We ask ourselves: is this decision of any utility?

An emotional decision is very fast, less than a second. This is a reactive decision taken when we face immediate envy or danger.

Another common use of emotion in decision is to start with logic and then use emotion in the final choice.

The neuroscientist […]

Defining emotion

First of all, many researchers separate feeling and emotion, where feeling is the subjective experience of the emotion. Some believe that emotions happen unconsciously, and hence that emotion is a much more general phenomenon than its subjective feeling. Feelings may also refer to the experience of bodily changes.

Some theorists argue that some emotions can be caused without any thoughts at all. They point immediate reactions. Debate on this point represents a major distinction between what are called cognitive theories and non cognitive theories of emotions. Non cognitive theories regard bodily responses to be essential.

A second distinction focuses […]

Emotion classification

How emotions should be classified? Are emotions distinctive states or do they vary smoothly along underlying dimensions?

James Russell (1979) model is an example of the latter, placing emotions along bi-polar dimensions of valence and arousal. Ekman divides emotions into basic and complex categories where emotions are considered foundational to the existence of others. Complex emotions may be regarded as developments upon basic emotions.

Such development occurs due to cultural conditioning. Alternatively, primary emotions could blend together to form the full spectrum of human emotional experience. For instance interpersonal anger and disgust could blend to form contempt in […]
