When we desire something, our joy depends on that something.

If it is taken away, we are miserable; if it is given to us, we are happy. But only for the moment!

Whenever our desires are fulfilled it is only for the moment that we feel joy. Again the mind starts desiring for more, for something else.

Mind exists in desiring and never leaves us without desire. If we are without desire, mind dies immediately.

Have you ever thought about your own life? Everything disappears, power, prestige, respectability, riches. Everything disappears and your mind goes on asking for more.
